May be used on all bicycle paths
The 31” (90 cm) rear wheelbase makes it possible to ride on all bicycle paths in Quebec.
Comfort
The positioning of the body provides unrivalled comfort, as it minimizes:
- Discomfort due to the seat
- Numbness in the feet and hands
- Back, shoulder and neck pain
Stability and safety
The three-wheeled low-riding design reduces the risk of falls and head trauma.
Design
- 1. It is designed without a handlebar; instead, it is steered using an articulated pivot at the seat. This offers a completely innovative, sporty and thrilling riding experience.
- 2. The ergonomic positioning reduces the propulsion effort required by 20%.
- 3. Climbing hills is facilitated by the back support and use of all thigh muscles.
- 4. The choice of front-wheel drive reduces chain length, making maintenance easier and reducing the risk of the chain slipping.
Integrated cargo rack
The cargo rack offers an 80 L capacity, making the Tripodcycle ideal for bicycle touring.
Storage
Storage is facilitated by the ability to stand the Tripodcycle on its rear base. Just secure the Tripodcycle by the front fender to stabilize it.
Flag and reflectors
The flag and reflectors provide excellent visibility for motorists.
Behaviour observed in motorists encountering a Tripodcycle
Two trips were made in July 2008 (July 16 and 20) on two different roads similar to the road around Île d’Orléans, which has no shoulder. About 120 vehicles (cars and trucks) were on the road for each trip and 100% of them behaved as follows: The width of the Tripodcycle made motorists more cautious when trying to pass at the same time a vehicle approached in the opposite direction. The trial demonstrated that cars will wait for the oncoming lane to be clear before passing. When motorists passed the Tripodcycle, they left a space of close to 2 m between their vehicle and the Tripodcycle as they thought they did not have enough space to pass an oncoming vehicle and a Tripodcycle at the same time. This situation is to the advantage of the Tripodcycle as the situation tested on several occasions with a bicycle demonstrated less favourable driving behaviours as motorists forced the cyclist to use the shoulder.
